Brief summary
This research project aimed to investigate aspects of energy requirements, energy intake and body composition in a population of preschool aged children with cerebral palsy. Results and outcomes will help inform clinical practice for this population and direct future research.
Interventions
This is an observational study. Children attended one appointment where various data collection measures were made, including details of gross motor functional ability, motor type and distribution of cerebral palsy, anthropometric measures, total energy expenditure, body composition measures, dietary intake and a clinical feeding evaluation. This appointment lasted approximately 1.5 - 2 hours. Children and parents completed additional data collection at home for total energy expenditure and dietary intake outcomes for the 10 days following the appointment. This is a subset of a larger project investigating the growth, nutrition and physical activity of preschool aged chidlren with cerebral palsy (ACTRN 12611000616976).

Inclusion criteria
Children with cerebral palsy: * confirmed diagnosis of cerebral palsy by a physician * aged between 1.4 and 5.1 years at time of assessment * Any gross motor functional ability level * residing in Queensland, Australia at the time of the study Typically developing children: *age matched *residing in Queensland, Australia at the time of the study
Exclusion criteria
Children with cerebral palsy: if the child had a progressive or neurodegenerative lesion or a chromosomal or genetic abnormality known to affect growth or body composition. Typically developing children: if the child had any condition or were taking any medications that altered energy metabolism or body composition
