Brief summary

The aim of the study is to test the effects of a couple based education program (Couple CARE for Parents) with couples having their first baby. We will assign couples to receive Couple CARE for Parents or usual woman focused education and support. We predict that Couple CARE for Parents will enhance couple relationship satisfaction, individual adjustment and parenting.

Inclusion criteria

Couples are eligible if they are a. married or in a cohabiting heterosexual relationship of duration 6 months or longer; b.have a Dyadic Adjustment Scale score of 90 or above indicting no severe relationship distress; c. expecting thier first live born child.

Exclusion criteria

(a) neither partner reports severe physical aggression or frequent less severe physical aggression have occured in the last 12 months, (b) neither partner is currently receiving treatment for a psychological disorder or for a couple relationship problem.
